Ver Post In many of her jewelry designs, Wing Yau, the fashion designer behind WWAKE (@wwake), features opals — a stone she’s loved since childhood. “I had visited Australia and the South Pacific islands,” explains Wing. “We collected opals and seashells, and so I have a deep-rooted nostalgia for those materials.”
Today, we’re with Wing in her studio, located in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. Ver Post Choreographers Shivani Bhagwan (@shivanibhagwan) and Chaya Kumar (@chayakumar) are the brains behind BFunk (@bfunk). “BFunk stands for the two styles of dance that we teach: BhangraFunk and BollyFunk,” explains Shivani. “It’s a fusion between elements of our western upbringing and our eastern roots,” explains Chaya. “Our heritage is woven through every fiber of our work. Dance is not a recreation in India; it’s a part of our culture. It’s a means of celebration. It’s a means of storytelling. It’s a means of communication.”
According to Shivani, “#APAHeritageMonth is wonderful because it promotes education, drives conversation and builds awareness, and that is the birthplace for growth.”

Ver Post For most dogs, having to wear a medical collar is not typically a good look. This ongoing “Cone of Shame” (#coneofshame) photo project set out to change that. “I wanted to take that sad moment and twist it into something beautiful and majestic — to take the shame out of the cone,” says Winnie Au (@winniewow), who photographed various dogs wearing custom sculptural cones created by costume designer Marie-Yan Morvan (@marieyan). “These dogs have not recently had surgeries,” Winnie adds. “They were all dogs photographed in good health who were comfortable wearing a cone.”
Winnie is currently selling prints of the project and donating a portion of the proceeds to Animal Haven’s Recovery Road Fund (@animalhaven) for rescue dogs in need of urgent help, “so that all the dogs of the world can get the medical care they need and wear their cones proudly,” Winnie says. Check out more pups who proudly turned their cones of shame into a fashion statement, today on our story.

Ver Post “Cooking has always been a conversation between my own lifestyle and the culture I’m from,” says food photographer and recipe developer Hannah Che (@hannah__chia), who has lived all over the world — from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Guangdong, China. “Honoring my heritage means connecting the food I make to the past, but also using it as a conversation to explore my own identity and tell my own story.”
For Hannah, #APAheritagemonth helps celebrate the diversity of Asian Pacific American people’s cultures and origins. “But it shouldn’t just be this month,” she says. “There are so many incredible things that Asian Pacific Americans are doing out there that really should be more visible year round.”
This post is in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, celebrated every May in the United States.

Ver Post Happy #MothersDay to all the mamas out there. 💕 Meet James Kicinski-McCoy (@bleubird): She’s the founder and editor-in-chief of @the__bleu and a mother of four. “It’s very loud,” says James about her busy home in Nashville, Tennessee. 😂 “I think having teenagers has been my favorite part, so far. Of course babies and kids are so cute and fun when they’re small, but to have an intelligent conversation with the people that you made and helped shape, and to watch them form their own passions, personalities, sense of humor, interests and viewpoints is really something.” One of those amazing teenagers is Milla “Plum” Kicinski — and she’s a big fan of Mother’s Day. “It’s a day to celebrate my mama, who is my best friend,” says Plum. “She is always there to give me love and advice, and it’s nice to have a day that is specifically for her, so we can shower her with love and appreciation.” 💐

Ver Post Photographer Alia Youssef (@aliayphotography) created @the.sisters.project when she realized her passion for portraiture could help bring visibility to her community. “Muslim women are often seen as a monolith, and some of the stereotypes associated with us are that we are silent, oppressed and voiceless,” explains Alia, who is from Vancouver, British Columbia, and traveled all over Canada to create these images. “I wanted to create a project that allowed for the diversity of Muslim women to be seen, and for our individual stories to be elevated, celebrated and shared.” Tune in to today’s story to learn more about Alia and her inspiring project. ✨
Right now, Alia and millions of people around the world are celebrating the holy month of #Ramadan, a month of prayer, giving and kindness. Share your moments of everyday kindness and good — and all your Ramadan celebrations — using the hashtag #MonthOfGood.

Ver Post These porcelain mugs by Sean Forest Roberts (@forestceramicco) are equal parts artistic exploration and science experiment. “The most important aspect of my studio practice is constant exploration, which is definitely derived from my background in science,” says Sean, who spent four years working in chemistry labs.
For the last three years, however, Sean has experimented with porcelain pots by layering different colored clay and handcarving them to reveal the colors underneath. “What’s so captivating for me is the ability to make functional artwork – cups, mugs and bowls that can be used and enjoyed every day,” Sean says.
Today on our IGTV channel, Sean shows us how he makes his handcarved creations.

Ver Post Artist Sean “Hula” Yoro (@the_hula) first made waves in the art world by combining his loves of surfing and painting. 👋 In his first-ever mural series, he paddled out to paint along ocean walls. “There is rarely one process I use, but I enjoy the new challenges every site brings,” says Sean.
“Since the start of my career, I have always drawn my inspiration back to my Hawaiian upbringing in the unique melting pot of island culture,” says the artist from Kahalu’u, Hawaii. “One value that has always stuck with me no matter where I have moved to is the term we call ‘kuleana.’ It is the responsibility we are taught as kids to know your role and responsibility in society for the better of your community.”

Ver Post For #NationalPoetryMonth, 26-year-old poet Melissa Lozada-Oliva (@ellomelissa) is sharing with us her forthcoming poem, “If you cast me in a movie, cast me as.” Inspired by the legacy of singer-songwriter Selena Quintanilla, the poem is Melissa’s way of expressing why representation matters. 🤘🏽 “What we’re looking for on a screen or in a book is ourselves. When we don’t see that, it’s damaging,” says Melissa. “This makes it impossible to cast the perfect Latina in a role, because there is no Latina who will represent us all. We are everything we carry and everything we’ve been trying to forget.”
Today on our story and IGTV channel, Melissa recites part of her poem and is joined by Yesika Salgado (@yesikastarr), Melania-Luisa Marte (@sheismela) and Kim Guerra (@brownbadassbonita), who will also be participating in the #WeAllGrow Summit (@weallgrowlatina) next month.
